A 7.6 magnitude earthquake shakes Mexico

southwestern coast of Mexico on Monday, killing at least one person, with shaking reported as far away as Mexico city.

In Coalcoman, Michoacan, near the quake's epicenter, buildings were damaged, but there were not immediate reports of injuries.

The quake hit shortly after 1 p.m. (1800 GMT) near Mexico's west coast and close to Michoacan's border with the state of Colima

There are no known casualties or damage yet recorded in Mexico City, according to the city's mayor, Claudia Sheinbaum.
